Why Good SEO Should be your Number 1 Goal

Good SEO is not just important. It should be your number 1 goal.  Everything else that you do in your quest for success in your online business hinges on good positioning on the search engines.

Never stop optimizing. If your website visibility drops way down on the search engines, you are quite literally invisible to the many millions of potential visitors (and buyers) who use them every day.

You may have seen ads (probably a lot of them) claiming to have the secret to finally optimizing your website for good. Don’t waste your money! Good SEO is a neverending task. There is no such thing as +set-it-and-forget-it” in SEO work.

It’s always changing

Search engine algorithms are always changing. Google and others are constantly refining their algorithms.

These algorithms are basically formulas the search engines us to decide on the quality and relevance of a particular ad or web page as it relates to the user’s query, or search term.

Google’s algorithm is said to be changed hundreds of times per year. For owners to keep up with every change is a massive undertaking and very likely counterproductive. It really is the major changes that are so important, which come out much less often.

The key to good SEO

The key to good SEO is the real secret to keeping your site optimized, regardless of what the search engines are doing. That key is to recognize that what they are doing with their ever-changing algorithms is working to improve the user experience.

What this means for those of us who working to earn a living via increasing the number of hits to our pages, and especially the hits that convert to sales, can do something without tearing our hair out in frustration over changing algorithms.

You can and should just keep working and brainstorming to improve the user experience on your website.

Regularly go through your posts and pages like you were a visitor. Look for anything you could improve. Change wording, remove redundant information, add interesting photos, increase the number of relevant and helpful in-text links, etc.

The more you improve your visitors’ experience, the more the search engines will decide to rank your pages higher in the search results. This is what good SEO is all about.

Research!

They say that content is king and SEO is queen or something like that. But royalty means nothing if nobody cares. Royalty needs good advice! Research your topics before writing about them. A whole lot of worthless information just makes visitors determined to leave quickly and never return.

Perhaps worse, modern AI can spot poor quality posts and pages. That can quickly get them rated as spam, which means that page will not just be ranked lower – it will be dropped off the search engines entirely.

The landing page

Landing pages should always be where your greatest level of focus lies.  According to Hawksem, “Today, with Google’s focus aimed at search relevancy and accuracy, landing page quality is an integral factor…” (It is well worth the time to ready Hawksem’s article on quality score, too.)

After all, it is the landing page most people will initially be directed to from the search engines. It must be fast-loading, eye-catching, relevant, and very easy to navigate.

A landing page must not be a sales page.

Think about the billboards boards you might see along the highway. A typical and memorable billboard for a restaurant does not show you the menu! Instead, it focuses on how much you are going to enjoy your experience if you visit.

Similarly, your landing page needs to focus on making your visitor really want to stay and look around, not on what it’s going to cost for the widget you’re selling. Make your landing page memorable and make it EASY for them to find the page selling the widget!

Keep up

Always practice good SEO

Why Sites with More than 1 Page are Usually Way Better

Why are sites with more than 1 page usually so much better than people seem to think?

In a word:  SEO – aka – Search Engine Optimization.

Single page websites with fancy scrolling tools and sliders have become all the rage.  Certain “experts” are advising their clients that if they want to be successful in the 21st century, they need to use a single page site, rather than the “old-fashioned” sites with more than 1 page.

But this kind of advice could kill your SEO and thus your online presence.  In other words, it could take the bottom out of your bottom line!

The reasons are multiple:

1. Single page websites are often way too long.  After all, no matter how you arrange your website, you have to get your Why Sites with 1 Page are Usually Better
message out in a way that let’s visitors know who you are and what you’re all about.

2. Because of the tendency for a single page website to be long, it will often take way longer to load than sites with more than 1 page.  By the time everything loads, your visitor may already have lost interest. Even worse, a potential visitor may not even see anything but a blank page for too long, especially on a low-bandwidth connection. » Read more
